Bacon Washed Bourbon

Fat washing alcohol isn't as complicated as it seems. Bacon Washed Bourbon is worth the effort, I promise. Whoever came up with the term "fat washing" clearly never stood in a shower crying after eating a whole pizza alone. Regret aside, today we're talking about how to fat wash alcohol. Fat washing spirits isn't some mystical process, and the results are pretty amazing.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 750ml bottle of Bourbon (I like to use Noble Oak for this)

  • 2oz Bacon Grease

  • Large Mouth Glass Container

Technique:

Pour melted bacon grease into glass container along with the whole bottle bourbon. Shake vigorously, and set on the counter for a couple of hours, returning to shake every so often. After a few hours, set container in the freezer overnight (or up to a week, as I did in the video). When you’re ready to decant, remove the container from the freezer, and break the fat seal that has frozen on top. Pour the bourbon through cheesecloth (or a fine mesh strainer) back into the original bottle.
