Smoked Chai Old Fashioned

Sip into the warm embrace of autumn with this Chai Old Fashioned, where the rich spices of chai blend harmoniously with the smooth warmth of bourbon (my favorite). To add a touch of coziness, we are infusing this cocktail with the aromatic swirl of a smoky cinnamon stick - A sip of fall in every glass!

SMOKED CHAI OLD FASHIONED

  • 1.5oz Bourbon or Rye

  • 1 oz Allspice Dram

  • 0.5 oz Chai Spice Syrup

  • 2-3 Dashes Wood Bitters

  • Cinnamon Sticks (For Smoking and Garnishing)

Add ice to a cocktail mixing glass along with all of your ingredients. Stir down for 30 seconds. Grab a short glass and add a large ice cube to it. Strain the cocktail into the glass.

Smoking Technique: Using a smoke lid/top and culinary torch, break cinnamon sticks into small enough pieces to fit in the fuel basket and then heat with a torch until the cinnamon is flaming. Leave the lid on the cocktail for 10-20 seconds before lifting and serving.

Chef’s Tip: If you don’t have a smoking lid, you can smoke the glass before straining the cocktail over ice! Simply torch your cinnamon sticks on a fire safe surface (I recommend a cast iron skillet), then invert your glass over the cinnamon to smother the flames. Build your cocktail as indicated above, turn the glass back over, add ice and strain the cocktail into the smoked glass. Cheers!
